Our Story

How We Met

It may not have been love at first sight, but fate definitely knew what she was doing the day we met each other... We don't know when that was though. Matt was friends with Lizzy's older sister, Sarah, and Lizzy had a crush on him. She became a cheerleader when she was 13 so she had an excuse to watch him play basketball. One of Matt's first memories of Lizzy was watching her dance at someone's bar mitzvah (they were probably 12 or 13ish), and Lizzy getting really embarrassed when she realized he was watching her. At least that was at the Copper Tree where our reception is, so it was meant to be!

The Proposal

One of the most romantic proposals ever - at least we think so! We had been talking about marriage (at least I had been), but it still took me by complete surprise. It was the morning of Friday, April 16, 2010 (the day before we were leaving for a little trip to Cali). I was teaching kindergarten in Roxbury, and arrived late to my classroom to find the door unlocked, lights on, and my co-teacher rifling behind my desk. Startled, she looked up and said she was looking for some book. We were both confused as to why the room was unlocked before I got there (really I thought she was stealing my stuff or something), and even more confused about the creepy note on my white board: Liz, you have a very important question to answer today. As I was exclaiming how creepy the note was, and that maybe it was from a custodian or I was going to lose my job or something (which, sadly, I did a month later), Matt comes strolling out of the bathroom! I thought I was hallucinating, and couldn't figure out what he was doing there or how he even knew where my classroom was. Then, when I saw him wearing his fancy black fitted blazer on a Friday morning, I think it hit me. I have no idea what he said after that (he said he'll tell me again some day), but he got down on one knee, took out an amazingly beautiful ring, and through extremely shaking hands and tearful eyes... I said yes! I then made him leave- my kids were on their way in! Apparently he was waiting quietly in that dark little bathroom for over an hour. I decided.. I've waited about ten years, he can wait an hour! ~Lizzy
